The Zimbabwe Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3) of 2026 is a proposed legal change that Primarily, it seeks to replace the direct popular election of the President with an election by a joint sitting of Parliament and to extend the terms of both the President and Parliament from five to seven years. Currently, the president is chosen through a popular vote in direct elections and can serve only two terms. While Mnangagwa is in his second term, his ZANU-PF party dominates parliament with a strong majority. Critics fear that the proposed amendments could make it even more difficult for anyone outside the party to become president in the future. Zimbabwe has experienced 46 years of independence without freedom of expression; people have been abducted and killed for speaking out against the wrongdoings of the ZANU-PF government and Mnangagwa. Mnangagwa and his inner circle want to amend the constitution without a referendum that further oppresses the ordinary Zimbabwean citizen this is an attack on the people of Zimbabwe taking away their voice and right to elect the President of their choice. When Mnangagwa came into power his mantra was ‘the voice of the people is the voice of God’ now he wants to silence the same voice and take away their rights. The ammendment does not advance democracy, but it actually creates a monarchy in the country.I say No to CAB3.
